Barcelona taxis are black with yellow doors. They show a green light if they are free. There are taxi stops all around the city noticeable by a blue sign post with the word taxi on them. There are also taxis waiting at some touristic sites, at stations, at the airport, at hospitals and the entrance of some hotels.
At taxi stops you have to queue if there happens to be more people and take the taxi ahead of the line on your turn. You can also pick up a taxi in the street shouting Taxi! and raising your hand, If you are less than 50 meters away from a taxi stop, the taxi is not allowed to take you and you have to go to the stop.
In the Airport El Prat there are taxi stops at the 3 terminals:
A, B and C. It takes about 50 minutes to get to the center (Plaça Catalunya).
The city fares for the taxi service are printed on a sticker located in the rear window of the taxi. The taximeter shows the amount to pay. You have the right to ask for receipt if you wish. Taxis do not have the obligation to have change for payment over 20€.
At the city center two different fares are applied: T1 and T2. These fares are updated every year.
T2 is applied on weekdays from 8.00 to 20.00. T1 on weekdays from 20.00 to 8.00 am, Saturdays and holidays, all day.
Fares on February 2008 are:
Meter start fare T2: 1,80 €.
