Once a separate town, Sants was absorbed by Barcelona as it grew. In Sants is located the main train station of Barcelona - Estació de ferrocarril de Sants, where there is a large tourist and accomodation office.
Sants used to be an industrial area. The park besides Sants train station, the Parc de l'Espanya Industrial, is on the land where the factory with the same name used to be.
The Plaça del Països Catalans designed by Piñón and Viaplana is known as the one of the 'hard' squares in the city, with little or no greenery, but with interesting urban design and furniture.
Nearby is Les Cotxeres, an old tram garage which has been converted into a center for leisure and artistic activities.
In the area of Les Corts, on the southside of Diagonal avenue, there is a comercial and services area with the shopping center L'illa.
